Colt Data Centre Services and RMZ have begun construction of their Mumbai 3 data centre at the operator's Navi Mumbai campus, following the signing of a hyperscale customer.

Announcing the milestone on October 15, the partners said the facility is fully pre-let and will deliver 64MW on completion. They did not identify the customer, disclose the contract value or give an opening date.

Mumbai 3 is part of the companies' existing joint venture, announced in 2024, to invest USD 1.7 billion in India's data centre market. The venture plans 250MW across Mumbai and Chennai. The investment figure is for that wider programme and is not a newly announced budget for Mumbai 3 alone.

Ground preparation for the facility began in December 2025. The partners say Mumbai 3 will take operational capacity at the Navi Mumbai campus to 86MW on completion, with potential for 148MW at full development. These represent different stages of the campus plan and should not be added together.

The facility's design combines air cooling with direct liquid-to-chip cooling for higher-density computing workloads. A 220kV gas-insulated substation on the campus and access to high-capacity fibre routes are also part of the planned infrastructure.

The companies plan to operate the facility using renewable energy and say its closed-loop cooling design will enable near-zero wastewater from the cooling process. These are design and operating intentions for a facility under construction, rather than measured performance from an operating site.

The project is expected to create more than 700 jobs across construction and operations, according to the announcement. It does not specify how many will be permanent operating positions.
