Aligned with national initiatives such as Maritime India Vision 2030 and Viksit Bharat 2047, there is a clear focus on enhancing shipbuilding capacity, modernising repair ecosystems, and strengthening allied maritime services, all essential for realising the full potential of the Blue Economy. Reflecting this momentum, the Indian shipbuilding sector, valued at USD 90 million in 2022, is projected to surge at an exceptional USD 8,120 million by 2033. INMEX SMM India 2025, under the theme ‘Building India’s Blue Economy: Shipbuilding & Repair as Growth Drivers,’ will serve as a catalyst for dialogue and action, uniting policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to chart a roadmap for self-reliance, innovation, and global competitiveness in this vital domain.”
Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping – Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said, “India’s maritime sector continues to play a pivotal role in the nation’s economic development and in strengthening our integration with global trade. The Government of India remains firmly committed to advancing shipbuilding and ship repair capabilities, while simultaneously promoting green shipping initiatives in alignment with international sustainability goals. In parallel, sustained efforts are underway to modernise maritime legislation and upgrade infrastructure to ensure India’s continued competitiveness amidst evolving global trade and tariff regimes. INMEX SMM India 2025 provides a timely and significant platform for constructive engagement between government and industry. By fostering innovation, sustainability, and self-reliance, this event will contribute meaningfully to India’s vision of emerging as a leading global maritime hub.”

India’s maritime and shipping sector is undergoing a profound transformation, anchored in sustainability, innovation, and future-ready infrastructure. Guided by the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the country is actively reshaping its ports and shipping operations through landmark programmes such as the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines, the Green Tug Transition Programme, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The ₹70,000 crore Maritime Development Fund, 2.8 times higher than the allocation in the February Budget, is poised to fast-track investments in green infrastructure, alternative fuels, and fleet modernisation, reinforcing India’s global leadership in maritime decarbonisation.
