Maruti reports record FY26 sales
Maruti Suzuki reported record FY26 sales of 24.22 lakh vehicles, and chairman R.C. Bhargava forecast the car market reaching 6.1 to 6.3 million units by FY31, with the small-car segment reviving on last year's GST cut.
Sees the small car reviving as GST cut bites
Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker, reported record annual sales of 24.22 lakh vehicles and record exports of 4.47 lakh in FY26 in its annual report, a third straight year above 2 million. Chairman R.C. Bhargava forecast the Indian car market reaching 6.1 to 6.3 million units by FY31, with the long-declining small-car segment now reviving faster than SUVs, a turnaround he credited to the September 2025 GST cut that lowered the levy on small cars to 18% while raising it on larger vehicles to 40%. About 70% of Maruti's output sits in the lower bracket, making it a prime beneficiary. The report also flagged seven new SUVs, added capacity and a INR 561 crore biogas investment.
