Michelin's first passenger car tyre made in India
Michelin has put its first India-made passenger car tyre on sale, the premium Primacy 5 for sedans and SUVs, rolled out from its Chennai plant after investing about INR 686 crore in a local car-tyre line. The French maker, which has long built truck and bus tyres in India but imported its car tyres, is localising partly under pressure: India's mandatory BIS certification for tyres has pushed global brands to manufacture locally or exit the market. Michelin says the Primacy 5 delivers shorter wet braking, better comfort and longer life than rivals, figures from its own testing. Pricing was not disclosed.
