Citizens of Kolhapur and nearby regions have gathered in huge numbers with family and friends supported and encouraged the Artisans present at the exhibition by purchasing their creations.

India’s cultural heritage

There is a huge potential available in the country with these talented artisans.  Given the right opportunity, they will not only grow, but also create a name in the domestic and international markets by showcasing India’s cultural heritage and our values. They also play a major role for the nation’s progress and growth. At the inauguration, Minister Chandrakant Patil said “Great oppportunity to witness diverse Indian arts under one roof. Despite the shadow of a global economic slowdown, India continues to progress. This is the result of traditional small-scale industries and startups supported by the government. The “Siddhagiri Artisan Mahakumbh,” initiated under the inspiration of Kad Siddheshwar Swamiji, President of Shri Siddhagiri Math Sansthan, Kaneri, has proven to be significant in the country’s progress, added Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil. Mr Patil was accompanied by President Kad Siddheshwar Swamiji, MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar, former MLA Prakash Awade, and other dignitaries.

Minister Patil also emphasised that more students should pursue polytechnic education and achieve progress through it. State Planning Board Executive Chairman Rajesh Kshirsagar added that artisans preserving traditional arts should be brought before society. Women should also engage in income-generating activities while managing their households. By working for about five hours daily, they can collaborate with other industries to increase their income. Through such initiatives, thousands of employment opportunities can be created. People can work with dignity and self-respect in such endeavors, expressed Minister Chandrakant Patil. The government will equally support from their part.

At the closing ceremony, Kad Siddheshwar Swamiji said; Artisans from the marginalized sections of society are gradually moving away from their traditional occupations. There is a growing need to create sustainable livelihoods for these artisans and to provide them with proper market access for their products. In this context, if the government extends support, it will be a key outcome of the Siddhagiri Artisan Mahakumbh.”

The event was held at Kaneri village. Kad Siddheshwar Swamiji further said that due to lack of opportunities, many individuals from rural and underdeveloped areas migrate to cities like Mumbai and Pune in search of employment. If proper opportunities are created locally, such migration can be reduced. With its natural beauty, resources, and educational institutions, Kolhapur district has strong potential to generate employment through tourism and related industries.

Shri Prakash Abitkar, Guardian Minister emphasized that Siddhagiri Math has consistently worked towards preserving and promoting Indian culture. Through innovative initiatives, the Math has brought Indian traditions and values to the forefront. Such efforts not only provide a platform for artisans but also spread awareness about the richness of Indian heritage, thereby generating a positive message in society.

Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik highlighted that before 2014, there were around 200 startups in India, whereas today the number has grown to approximately 800,000. Platforms like the Artisan Mahakumbh inspire thousands of people and encourage entrepreneurship. These initiatives strengthen Indian culture while also creating employment opportunities. He further noted that in today’s world, opportunities are available for those willing to work. India’s global importance is increasing, and with strong leadership at the national level, the country is progressing steadily on the world stage. The Chairman of ‘Jankalyan’ also appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and expressed hope that such initiatives should continue in the future.

Several dignitaries, including district-level officials and social leaders such as Prashant Vadke, Anand Patil, and others, extended their support to the program. The event served as a significant platform for promoting traditional arts, encouraging self-reliance, and generating employment opportunities at the grassroots level.
