Stellantis signs agreement to use Tata vehicle technology for global markets

Stellantis, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility say they have signed a definitive agreement extending their partnership into vehicle technology and product development, moving beyond a February 2026 memorandum of understanding.

Under the agreement, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles will provide access to its product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis says its Indian engineering operations will adapt that technology to customer, regulatory and operating requirements in more than 50 global markets.

Vehicles developed under the arrangement will be manufactured at Fiat India Automobiles, the partners' existing 50:50 joint venture in India. The announcement identifies a development and manufacturing route; it does not disclose a production order or confirmed export volumes.

The technology direction predates today's signing. In its May 21 investor-day presentation, Stellantis said Tata would provide a platform for a new Jeep vehicle developed and assembled in India for international markets. The October agreement gives the broader collaboration a definitive contractual basis, although the release does not identify individual models.

The distinction matters: an existing manufacturing partnership is being extended to access Tata's vehicle technology, rather than a new joint venture being created. Actual investment, factory throughput and export earnings will depend on the programmes ultimately implemented.
