Surat-based Sahajanand Medical Technologies has enrolled the first patient in SAFE-PFO, a randomised trial comparing its Cocoon patent foramen ovale occluder directly against devices from Abbott's Amplatzer family. The first enrolment was at Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW in Germany, under principal investigator Dr Werner Scholtz. The study plans to enrol up to 1,260 patients across about 60 European centres, with 12 months of follow-up per patient and recruitment expected to take about two years. SMT, which reported revenue of around INR 1,000 crore in FY2025 and is backed by Samara Capital, Kotak and SBI Mutual Fund, has previously filed for a public listing.
