Tata, VECV and Mahindra report September commercial vehicle growth
Tata’s commercial vehicle total rose 42.4%, VECV’s 49.6% and Mahindra’s truck and bus business 52.9%. Export contributions and vehicle categories differ, so the results require clearly labelled scopes when interpreting the month.
Tata Motors, VE Commercial Vehicles and Mahindra’s truck and bus business reported higher September 2026 volumes, with increases across differently defined commercial vehicle portfolios.
Tata’s total reached 51,062 units, up 42.4% year on year. Domestic volumes rose 31.2% to 43,487, while international business increased to 7,575 from 2,714. International volumes therefore contributed materially to the stronger headline growth.

VECV reported 11,146 Eicher vehicles and 250 Volvo vehicles. Eicher’s domestic volumes rose 57.5% to 10,479, while exports fell 4.7% to 667. Volvo volumes declined from 267 to 250. The combined VECV headline consequently conceals different component trends.
Mahindra’s above-3.5-tonne business comprises MTBD and SML Mahindra. MTBD reported 1,788 units against 954, and SML 1,124 against 950. Together, cargo vehicles reached 2,043 and passenger vehicles 869.
Separately, Mahindra’s auto release reported 30,420 domestic light commercial vehicles below 3.5 tonnes, comprising 4,044 below two tonnes and 26,376 in the two-to-3.5-tonne category. Maruti reported 3,414 domestic Super Carry light commercial vehicles. These are separate scopes and have not been folded into the truck and bus comparison.
The releases show stronger reported dispatches across these businesses, but their totals cannot be summed into an industry estimate. Different tonnage coverage, exports and brand groupings must remain visible when assessing the month.
