Vertis Infrastructure launches India’s first truck mounted attenuator

Vertis Infrastructure successfully launched India’s first Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) at the Ador Campus in Pune, marking a significant milestone in the country’s highway safety ecosystem. The post-launch event was attended by senior officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), industry stakeholders, and safety experts, who gathered to witness the introduction of a globally proven safety technology designed to protect road workers and motorists operating in live, high-speed traffic environments.

As India continues to build highways at an unprecedented pace, work zones remain among the most hazardous areas on the road network. Limited protective infrastructure, high vehicle speeds, and minimal buffering between traffic and workers contribute to severe and often fatal accidents. The introduction of TMAs addresses this long-standing safety gap by providing dedicated impact-absorption systems in active highway work zones—an approach already standard across the US, Europe, and other developed markets.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ankit Yadav, NHAI, underlined the authority’s long-term safety vision and stated that NHAI aims to move towards zero-fatality corridors across national highways. He emphasised that the adoption of technologies such as Truck Mounted Attenuators plays a critical role in improving work-zone safety and reducing avoidable loss of life.

Mr. Zafar, Joint Chief Executive Officer, Vertis Infrastructure, took attendees through the journey leading up to the launch, highlighting how the initiative has evolved with one clear focus—saving lives. “Our effort has always been to bring practical, globally proven safety solutions to Indian roads. Reaching the TMA stage is about protecting people working in some of the most vulnerable conditions on highways,” he said.

Truck Mounted Attenuators are impact-absorbing crash cushions mounted on service vehicles deployed in live traffic areas. In the event of a rear-end collision, the TMA absorbs crash energy and decelerates the impacting vehicle in a controlled manner, significantly reducing the risk of fatal and serious injuries. Since the first deployment of TMAs on Indian roads in 2021, the technology has contributed to saving over 100 lives.

As part of the current rollout, a total of 20 TMAs are ready for deployment, with the first lot of eight units formally inaugurated at the event. The remaining units will be delivered over the next ten days.

The launch featured a live demonstration showcasing the deployment and functionality of the TMA, a technical walkthrough, safety briefings by Vertis Infrastructure, and an open discussion on scaling the technology across national highway projects. With this milestone, Vertis Infrastructure continues to push for safer highway practices that place human life at the centre of infrastructure growth.
