Volvo Car India has launched its flagship electric SUV, the EX90, at an introductory ex-showroom price of INR 1.26 crore. Bookings are open, with customer experiences and drives beginning in November 2026 and deliveries scheduled for January 2027.
Chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand and Mr Jyoti Malhotra, managing director, Volvo Car India, were present to launch the SUV. Priced at 1.26 crores (introductory ex-showroom), Mr Anand will be taking the honour of being the first customer of the EX90.
Talking about his experience with Volvo Cars, Anand said: “Volvo brings to mind certain qualities. You think immediately of safety, reliability and luxury. I think there's an underlying intelligence which manifests itself as confidence. So the moment you get into a Volvo, and you have that experience, it gives you a sense of that.”
The six-seat SUV introduces what Volvo describes as its first software-defined vehicle offering in India. Built on the company’s SPA2 platform, it combines a twin-motor electric powertrain with central computing and over-the-air updates, allowing vehicle software to be updated during ownership.
Speaking at the company’s 90-90 show in Delhi, Malhotra indicated, “The launch of the EX90 is a major milestone in Volvo Car India’s commitment towards a more electric, software-defined future.”
The EX90 uses a 106kWh lithium-ion battery and produces 335kW, equivalent to 456hp, with 670Nm of torque. Volvo reports acceleration from 0–100km/h in 5.5 seconds. Its release gives a projected WLTP range of up to 625km and an ICAT-rated range of up to 725km. These figures use different testing measures and should not be treated as interchangeable estimates of everyday driving range.
For introductory bookings, Volvo says the package includes an 11kW wall-box charger and three years of servicing. The company also describes a dealership buyback offer of 65% after three years. The release identifies December 31, 2026 as the introductory-offer deadline but does not provide detailed buyback conditions.
Inside, the EX90 has second-row captain seats, power-folding rear seats, ventilated Nappa leather upholstery and four-zone climate control. A 14.5-inch central touchscreen provides access to a built-in Google ecosystem, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay. The equipment list also includes a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
Volvo says its safety and assistance systems use five cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Features include Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, occupant sensing, collision avoidance and a 360-degree camera with a three-dimensional view.
Malhotra reiterated, “We feel that it is the perfect luxurious family SUV that brings you peace of mind, keeps safety at the forefront and gives you the best experience of Swedish luxury”.
The company also teased the electric ES90 sedan, signalling a further addition to its portfolio, although the release does not disclose its India price or delivery schedule.
Volvo has not disclosed the EX90’s post-introductory price, India sales allocation or detailed buyback terms.
