Domestic demand cushions travel trade

As fuel costs weigh on outbound, industry says at TTF Mumbai

India’s travel trade is heading into the festive and winter season on the strength of domestic demand, industry representatives said at TTF Mumbai 2026, while flagging pressure on outbound travel from higher aviation fuel costs and disruption to West Asia routes. The Travel Agents Association of India said changing global conditions and visa constraints for the European Union and United States are shifting traveller preferences towards domestic and Far East destinations. The Network of Indian MICE Association said corporate MICE is growing 10 to 15 percent a year and destination weddings 15 to 20 percent, and expects the combined segment to grow 12 to 14 percent annually over the next three to five years.

Rajasthan’s tourism department reported total tourist visits rising 9.6 percent to 2544.49 lakh in 2025 from 2321.57 lakh in 2024, with domestic visits up 9.74 percent to 2525.03 lakh, and said it expects domestic arrivals to grow around 10 percent annually over the next five years. TTF Mumbai, organised by Fairfest Media, ran from 20 to 22 August at the Jio World Convention Centre with more than 500 exhibitors, 20 states and union territories and over 10,000 trade visitors.
