Grain supplies nearly 70 per cent of India’s ethanol, says AIDA

Grain-based feedstocks accounted for nearly 70 per cent of ethanol supplied by August-end, according to AIDA. Its figures put deliveries at 85.4 per cent of contracted volumes, but the grain breakdown needs reconciliation.

Grain-based feedstocks supplied 624 crore litres of India’s ethanol by August-end, nearly 70 per cent of the total, according to the All India Distillers’ Association. AIDA puts cumulative supplies for ethanol supply year 2025–26 at 895 crore litres against 1,048 crore litres contracted, leaving 153 crore litres outstanding. Sugar-based supplies accounted for 271 crore litres. However, the association’s listed grain components total 623 crore litres, one crore below its stated subtotal. The release did not disclose its compilation methodology, explain the discrepancy or provide a comparable earlier-period feedstock breakdown.

AIDA’s call for additional ethanol demand sits alongside a separate question about fuel quality. Bizmudra previously reported conflicting contamination findings from oil companies and automakers. The association’s latest supply release does not address those findings.
