Following Amazon and Tata Motors' electric-freight announcement, JSW Greentech has announced an order for 100 AMPSTAR electric tractor trucks for JSW Cement, adding a heavy-duty industrial route to the emerging electric-truck pipeline.

The company says the 4x2, 55-tonne tractor trucks will carry clinker and slag along an approximately 330-km corridor connecting Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and Vijayanagar in Karnataka. Logistics partner Paradeep Parivahan will participate in the operations, while JSW Eco Mobility will provide the battery-as-a-service arrangement.

The operating plan includes four battery-swapping stations along the corridor. JSW Greentech projects monthly movement of about 1.25 lakh tonnes once the proposed operation is in place.

“With this, we are building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem, including a dedicated electric corridor with battery-swapping stations to enable the seamless movement of materials,” Sumit Mittal, chief executive of JSW Greentech, said in the supplied release.

The announcement brings together the vehicles, freight requirement, logistics partner and battery-service model within a defined route. JSW Cement is a group customer, making the arrangement an initial application within the wider JSW ecosystem.

The release describes a commercial order but does not give a truck-by-truck delivery schedule or establish that all 100 vehicles and all four swap stations are already operational. Vehicle pricing, battery-service charges and measured operating costs are also undisclosed.
