MG Hector Tomahawk launched in EV and PHEV
JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk in Mumbai, the first SUV built on its ADAPT platform, and the first vehicle in the country offered with both a full-electric and a plug-in hybrid powertrain under one nameplate.

JSW MG Motor India launched the MG Hector Tomahawk, the first production vehicle built on ADAPT, the company’s Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology unveiled in July as India’s first multi-New Energy Vehicle platform.
When we covered the ADAPT unveiling, the promise was a single architecture capable of supporting electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range-extender powertrains. The Hector Tomahawk is the first proof of that promise, arriving simultaneously as a battery-electric SUV and as what MG is calling India’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid in the segment.

Introductory prices start at INR 13.99 lakh plus INR 4.90 per km battery rental for the EV under MG’s Battery-as-a-Service programme, and INR 21.79 lakh plus INR 3.20 per km for the PHEV. For buyers who want to own the battery outright, ex-showroom prices begin at INR 19,49,800 for the EV and INR 25,69,800 for the PHEV.
Two powertrains, one SUV
The Hector Tomahawk EV uses a 69.2 kWh high-voltage pack MG calls the MAGIC Battery, paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150 kW and 310 Nm. MG claims a certified range of 517 km on the MIDC test cycle and a 0-100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds. DC fast charging peaks at 90 kW, taking the battery from 30 to 80 percent in roughly 35 minutes, while a 7.4 kW AC wallbox will fill it from 10 to 100 percent in about 12.5 hours.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is the more unusual product. It pairs a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine making 75 kW and 125 Nm with a 148 kW / 237 Nm electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery, driving through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. MG quotes over 115 km of pure-electric range and a combined range of more than 1,100 km with a full charge and a full 52-litre tank, with 0-100 km/h in about nine seconds. The company notes final certification for the PHEV range figures is still awaited.
Vehicle-to-Home, an India first
The headline feature is Vehicle-to-Home, which MG says is a first for the Indian market. Using bi-directional charging, the SUV’s battery can run household lights, fans and appliances during an outage. The car also supports Vehicle-to-Load for powering equipment outdoors and Vehicle-to-Vehicle for charging another EV.
One practical caveat worth noting: the vehicle is V2H-capable, but the V2H unit itself is sold separately and MG’s own documentation says availability of the charger for sale and installation will follow at a later date. On the EV, maximum V2H output is listed at 6.6 kVA; on the PHEV it is 3 kVA.
Space, screens and karaoke
At 4,745 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,770 mm tall on a 2,810 mm wheelbase, MG claims the Tomahawk is the tallest and among the longest in its segment. Ground clearance at the battery is 230 mm. The five-seater offers 610 litres of boot space; the seven-seater gives 192 litres with all three rows up, expanding to 528 litres with the third row folded.
Inside sits a 15.6-inch HD Grand View display; the largest in the class, alongside an 8.8-inch driver’s display and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system. The cabin runs i-SMART 3.0 with more than 80 connected features, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, over-the-air updates and a digital Bluetooth key with sharing.
The talking point is India’s first GenAI-powered voice assistant in a car, capable of conversational interaction and more than 30 Hinglish commands across six languages. Paired with it is the Starmaanch karaoke app, which brings over 8,000 tracks spanning Bollywood, English, regional and children’s music into the cabin; MG’s partnership with Jio also delivers 18-plus connected apps covering entertainment, shopping, quick commerce, food and gaming.
Safety
Six airbags are standard across all variants, along with ESP, traction control, hill hold, ABS with EBD, all-round disc brakes, TPMS and ISOFIX anchors. A 360-degree HD camera system with transparent chassis and wheel view is fitted, and MG offers an 11-function Level 2 ADAS suite including adaptive cruise, traffic jam assist, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection and intelligent headlamp control.
Buyers should note the ADAS pack is restricted to the top Essence trim on both powertrains; it is not available on Excite or Exclusive.
On the battery, MG cites needle penetration testing without fire, 180-degree thermal shock testing, and more than 2,000 bench tests and 490 full-vehicle validations. A lifetime battery warranty applies to the first owner on both the EV and the PHEV.
The EV is available in five-and seven-seat configurations; the PHEV is seven-seat only. Ownership is backed by MG SHIELD: a 3-3-2 package on the EV and 3-3-3 on the PHEV, covering a three-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, three years of roadside assistance and two or three labour-free services respectively. An assured buyback programme is also offered.
Bookings are open at dealerships and online. EV deliveries begin in September 2026, while PHEV test drives and deliveries start in November 2026.
