JSW MG Motor India unveils MG ADAPT
New modular multi-powertrain NEV platform architecture supports electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range-extender powertrains on a single framework
JSW MG Motor India unveiled MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), which it is positioning as India’s first multi-powertrain New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform. The modular architecture is designed to support four electrified powertrain types — Electric Vehicles (EV), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) and Range Extender Electric Vehicles (REEV) — on a single intelligent framework.
The company said the platform will serve as the technological backbone of its next generation of new energy vehicles, with one EV and one PHEV set to debut on MG ADAPT by FY2026-27. Model names, specifications and pricing were not disclosed at the unveiling.
MG ADAPT is built as a modular architecture intended to give the carmaker greater design flexibility and faster product development while allowing a single platform to be configured for different powertrains. According to the company, it is engineered to improve driving range, fast-charging capability, efficiency, performance, safety and driving refinement, with the aim of offering customers, ‘the right powertrain for every driving need’.
Key highlights
• A single platform supporting four powertrains: EV, HEV, PHEV and REEV
• One EV and one PHEV confirmed to launch on the platform by FY2026-27
• An integrated technology suite the company says includes a dedicated hybrid engine, a dedicated battery system, India’s first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit and the world’s first Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission
• An Intelligent Energy Management System with four automatic drive modes
What’s under the platform
At the core of MG ADAPT is what the company describes as an integrated technology ecosystem developed for hybrid applications. It pairs a dedicated hybrid engine — built for higher thermal efficiency and lower fuel consumption — with a dedicated battery system, a compact 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit, and an Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, all overseen by an Intelligent Energy Management System that the company says continuously optimises how the engine, battery and motor work together.
The energy management system automatically selects from four drive modes: Pure Electric Drive for urban running, Series Hybrid Drive, in which the engine generates electricity while the motor drives the wheels, Parallel Hybrid Drive, where engine and motor work together, and Engine Direct Drive for highway cruising.
Speaking at the unveiling, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India, said MG ADAPT marks ‘a defining milestone’ in the company’s new energy vehicle journey, adding that the platform will serve as the technological backbone of our future products and reinforce our commitment to accelerating sustainable mobility in India. He said the architecture is intended to give customers ‘the freedom to choose the energy solution that best suits their lifestyle, without compromising on performance, efficiency or driving experience’.
The platform also supports a range-extender (REEV) configuration, in which the electric motor always drives the wheels and the petrol engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery — delivering an electric-first experience with added range for longer journeys.
