World Environment Day

Every year, at Bizmudra, we get comments and quotes from industry leaders on their contribution towards the environment over the year and their plans for the future.
Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Reducing carbon emissions is a top priority for us, both in our products and in our operations. Maruti Suzuki was the first company in India to obtain an Automobile-Freight-Train-Operator license, in 2013. Since then, we have dispatched nearly 24 lakh vehicles through rail mode. By FY 2030-31, we plan to
increase the share of vehicle dispatches through railways to 35%.”
Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said “At HMIL, sustainability is not a one-day affair but a core value that drives our innovation, products and community initiatives. This Environment month, we are empowering our customers to help them take meaningful actions, be it through responsible driving, eco-conscious vehicle care or transitioning to electric mobility. Together, we can co-create a greener, more sustainable future.”
Nikhil Jain, Director, GoGreen Enterprises, said, “At GoGreen Enterprises, every black particle we recover tells a green story. As pioneers in sustainable carbon solutions, we convert end-of-life tires into high-grade recovered carbon black—giving waste a new purpose and reducing dependence on fossil-derived carbon. Our innovation enables true tyre-to-tyre circularity, where what once rolled on the road rolls again—cleaner, greener, and responsibly. This World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to circularity, climate consciousness, and industrial innovation. Sustainability isn’t just a choice—it’s our blueprint for a regenerative future.”
Spokesperson at Nissan Motor India said, “Reiterating its commitment to sustainability, Nissan Motor India has announced a series of green initiatives to mark World Environment Day. The dealers have installed grid-based solar electricity generation systems at seven of its dealerships across the country. These installations power 100% of the workshop and showroom operations with excess energy redirected to the power grid for later use. Please find attached and below the press release for your editorial consideration.”
Dr. Aanchal Jain, CEO, PMI Electro Mobility said, “Today marks a significant milestone as our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, planted a Banyan sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi as a part of the initiative, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, an effort toward restoring biodiversity and enhancing climate resilience. The Prime Minister also flagged off a new fleet of electric buses by PMI Electro Mobility under the DEVi initiative—ushering in cleaner, smarter public transportation for Delhi. At PMI Electro Mobility, we are proud to contribute to this green transformation. Our electric buses are now on the roads of Delhi, reducing emissions and paving the way for a cleaner environment. Every year, our EV fleet helps cut thousands of tons of CO₂ emissions—proving that electric mobility is not just the future, but the present.”
Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), said, “In line with India’s Net Zero vision defined by Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji, VECV is committed to delivering future-ready mobility solutions—from electric, LNG and CNG trucks and buses to emerging technologies like hydrogen and fuel cells—as the market matures. Our investments in smart manufacturing, renewable energy, and responsible resource management reflect a holistic approach to sustainable growth.”
Mr. Bala Ramajeyam, Founder & Managing Director, G Square Group, “This World Environment Day, we acknowledge that the health of the planet is paramount and reaffirm our commitment to responsible development. The real estate sector is resource-intensive, apart from being a huge consumer of energy. We therefore believe that it is important to encourage environmentally-conscious construction practices. In this context, the theme of World Environment Day, "Ending Global Plastic Pollution," is pertinent. The theme is a reminder that environmental health and human well-being are interlinked. Plastics are non-biodegradable and take decades to decompose. They enter the food chain and harm marine and human life.”
Prof Nidhi Kumari, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon, highlighted: “While World Environment Day may offer only a brief moment of spotlight for (Sustainable Development Goal) SDG 15, the broader impact of this annual observance is undeniable. It highlights the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic goals, reminding us that sustainability is not an isolated agenda but one that spans multiple sectors. The real challenge is ensuring this momentum doesn’t fade. Businesses, policymakers, and media organizations must shift from one-off green messaging to sustained, embedded sustainability engagement — year-round.”
Dr. Anirban Ghosh, Professor and Head, Centre for Sustainability, Mahindra University: “The importance of World Environment Day continues to grow as emissions increase every year. The urgency to find an environmentally cleaner way of life has never been greater. The focus must be on climate solutions we can adopt and scale right now even as newer solutions emerge and become economically viable. Academic institutions must ensure that all graduating students understand climate change and have deep knowledge of climate solutions. This is not a competitive game – we will win only if we work together in the true spirit of collaboration.”
Mr. Agendra Kumar, Managing Director, Esri India: “Plastic pollution is choking our planet, harming ecosystems, well-being, and the climate. Plastic waste clogs rivers, pollutes the ocean, and endangers wildlife. While steps are being taken towards reusability, reducing single-use plastics, and improving waste management, we must go further, faster. At Esri India, we are committed to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals by empowering stakeholders with the geospatial tools required to drive impactful, data-driven environmental action. Ending plastic pollution begins with understanding where it exists and how it moves.”
Matthew Foxton, India Regional President and Executive Vice President of Branding & Communications, IDEMIA Group: “At IDEMIA Secure Transactions (IST), environmental sustainability is thought into everything we do. On World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to reducing environmental impact across our operations, from eco-designed products to improved manufacturing and service processes. Initiatives like GREENPAY and GREENCONNECT reflect how IST incorporates environmental considerations into secure payment and connectivity solutions. We follow a clear path: reduce, reuse and recycle, while partnering with responsible suppliers and driving resource efficiency across our value chain. At IST India, this commitment comes alive through energy-efficient practices, waste reduction, and community-driven initiatives.”
Sriram Kannan, Founder & CEO, Routematic: “This World Environment Day, as the global focus sharpens on curbing pollution, we’re reminded that sustainability must be embedded in every layer of business operations, including how we move people. With ESG goals reshaping corporate strategies, businesses are rethinking employee transport and Routematic is proud to lead this shift. As India’s leading AI-driven Corporate Transport-as-a-Service provider, we combine AI powered route optimization, shared mobility, and EV integration to reduce emissions and resource use.
