Andhra Pradesh added nearly 3.9 GW of renewable capacity in FY26

Andhra Pradesh added 3,865.63 MW of renewable energy capacity in 2025-26, close to four times the 1,085 MW it added a year earlier, according to Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy data tabled in the Lok Sabha in reply to a question from Tamil Nadu MP Dr M.K. Vishnu Prasad.

On the Centre's figures the jump is dramatic: additions of just 125 MW, 149 MW and 59 MW in the three years to 2023-24, before crossing 1 GW in 2024-25 and accelerating to nearly 3.9 GW. An official release tied the surge to friendlier policies, faster approvals and large-scale investment, and it feeds a national marker flagged in the same reply: that India has already crossed 50% of installed capacity from non-fossil sources, five years ahead of its 2030 target, on the way to 500 GW by 2030.

The number is worth a second look, though, because the state's own data does not yet match it. Andhra's nodal agency, NREDCAP, recorded just 321 MW commissioned in 2025-26 as of 30 November 2025, 24.6 MW of wind and 296.5 MW of solar, on a cumulative base of about 10,309 MW. For the Centre's full-year figure to hold, almost all of it, roughly 3,500 MW, would have had to come in the final four months, or the two agencies are counting different things. The state has not explained the gap, and the split between solar and wind was not disclosed.

The build-out is led by ReNew, which has signed agreements to invest about INR 60,000 crore in the state, and Greenko, which is developing an integrated renewables-and-storage complex around Kurnool. It aligns with the Chandrababu Naidu government's target of 72.6 GW of renewables by 2030, set at RE-INVEST 2024. Even so, Andhra ranked about sixth among states on installed renewable capacity as of last year.
