The Andhra Pradesh government has launched 'Netanna Sevalo', a welfare scheme for handloom weavers, releasing INR 179 crore in direct assistance to 71,536 handloom families at INR 25,000 each, on National Handloom Day. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced it at Chirala, a handloom hub, alongside a promise of a law to protect Backward Classes and a INR 97 crore Suryalanka-Chirala tourism corridor. Andhra has about 1.27 lakh people dependent on handloom, across traditions like Venkatagiri, Dharmavaram and Uppada. This is a state-government announcement, framed as a political win.
