FADA reports October vehicle retail of 31.72 lakh; November carries Diwali demand
October registrations fell 23.80% year on year but rose 25.05% from September. FADA attributes much of the annual decline to the festival calendar and flags passenger-vehicle inventory of 43-45 days.
Vehicle retail registrations reached 31,72,466 units in October 2026, down 23.80% from a year earlier but up 25.05% from September, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations.
FADA attributed much of the year-on-year decline to the comparison with October 2025, which included both Navratri and Diwali, while Diwali falls in November this year. That explanation is the dealer association's assessment; the October data alone cannot establish how much buying has been deferred.
Two-wheeler registrations fell 28.35% year on year to 23,21,419, while passenger vehicles declined 14.23% to 5,07,768. Commercial vehicles increased 2.29% to 1,15,140, three-wheelers rose 3.97% to 1,41,420 and tractors grew 3.10% to 79,285.

FADA said passenger-vehicle inventory remained at approximately 43-45 days, unchanged from September. It expects the November festive period to help reduce stocks, but that remains an outlook rather than a completed reduction.
Separately, Mahindra & Mahindra executive director and CEO, Auto and Farm Sector, Rajesh Jejurikar said its SUV dealership stock was “less than eight to nine days”, excluding vehicles in transit. This is a company-specific statement and uses a disclosed exclusion; it is not a directly comparable measure of inventory across the entire passenger-vehicle market.
The FADA dataset was collated as of November 4 from 1,468 of 1,469 RTOs. October registration data for three-wheelers, commercial vehicles and tractors were unavailable for Telangana, according to the release. Those category and geographic limits apply to the totals above.
