Gestamp invests INR 523.7 crore in a Gujarat plant as global vehicle output slows
The Spanish auto components maker has inaugurated its fifth Indian plant at Bhagapura in Gujarat, with two hot-stamping lines and about 240 employees, while cutting capital spending elsewhere.
Gestamp has inaugurated its fifth Indian plant at Bhagapura in Gujarat, representing an investment of INR 523.7 crore across two phases. The facility makes highly engineered body-in-white components, employs about 240 people and offers 31,790 square metres of manufacturing space, with two hot-stamping lines, a laser cutting line and welding cells.
The context the company supplies itself is the more interesting part. Gestamp says global light vehicle production is expected to decline in 2026 and that it is running a selective investment strategy that prioritises growth markets while containing capital expenditure worldwide. India is receiving money at a point when most of the group's geographies are not.
The company cites S&P Global Mobility projections that Indian light vehicle production will reach 7.8 million units by 2030, an increase of 28 percent on 2025 levels. Gestamp has operated in India for 20 years and the plant was inaugurated by executive chairman Francisco J. Riberas.
Hot stamping matters commercially because it produces high-strength, lighter structural parts, which is where tightening crash norms and electric vehicle weight targets are pushing Indian manufacturers. Gestamp says the plant is equipped for its Ges-Gigastamping range of large single-piece components.
Gestamp did not disclose expected output or run-rate from the plant, its customers, or how the INR 523.7 crore splits between the two phases and what remains to be spent.
