Maersk raises full-year guidance on strong demand, warns of worsening congestion
Shipping bellwether Maersk sharply raised its full-year profit guidance after a strong second quarter, citing robust demand and higher freight rates, while flagging deepening congestion and rerouting, relevant signals for Indian trade.
A.P. Moller-Maersk, the global container-shipping bellwether, sharply raised its full-year guidance after a strong second quarter, now expecting underlying EBITDA of USD 10.5 to USD 12.5 billion, up from USD 8 to USD 10 billion. Quarterly EBITDA was USD 3 billion, with ocean volumes up 4.1% and logistics revenue up 15%. Its readout matters for Indian exporters and importers: CEO Vincent Clerc pointed to strong Far East demand, unbalanced trade flows and deepening port and inland congestion, including cargo rerouted from the Strait of Hormuz, all of which shape freight costs and supply-chain reliability.
