Mahindra tractor volumes fall in September as Sonalika reports H1 milestone
Mahindra reported lower September tractor volumes despite first-half growth. Sonalika crossed 100,000 total tractor sales in April–September, but did not disclose an exact monthly figure or a comparable prior-year baseline.
Mahindra reported 52,100 tractor sales in September 2026, down 21.2% from 66,111 a year earlier, while Sonalika announced that its April–September overall sales had crossed 100,000 units.
The announcements cover different periods and levels of detail. Mahindra supplied exact domestic and export figures for September and the fiscal first half. Sonalika supplied a first-half threshold without exact monthly sales or a prior-year comparison.

Mahindra’s April–September total nevertheless rose 6.6% to 274,068 from 257,025. Domestic first-half sales increased 6.3% to 262,872. A weak September comparison therefore sits alongside growth over the six-month period.
The first-half comparison covers April through September in both years, with exports included in the total and shown separately in the monthly table. A six-month milestone therefore cannot explain September alone.
The company attributed the monthly pattern to the timing of festivals and the previous year’s buying cycle. Those explanations are management’s interpretation; the release does not independently isolate the effect of each factor.
Sonalika said September production reached 19,000 tractors. That is a manufacturing figure and must not be described as September sales. Its first-half milestone remains a company-reported threshold, rather than a basis for a monthly growth rate or market-share calculation.
The two reports illustrate why period and measure matter: a monthly decline, a rising first-half total and a production milestone can coexist without describing the same market movement.
