Qualcomm splits Snapdragon flagship range into two Gen 6 platforms

Qualcomm has introduced two Snapdragon flagship platforms built on a 2nm process, widening its premium handset offering. The announcement names prospective smartphone partners but does not specify India launch dates, handset prices or independently tested performance.

Qualcomm Technologies has introduced two flagship smartphone processors, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, extending its premium mobile range with a choice of platforms for handset manufacturers.

Announced in Maui on September 22, the platforms share a 2nm manufacturing process and Qualcomm's Oryon CPU, Adreno graphics and Hexagon AI processing technology, according to the company. Qualcomm positions Extreme as its highest-end mobile offering, while the other platform brings many of the same capabilities to a broader range of premium smartphones.

The split gives device makers another option within the flagship portfolio. Qualcomm says the platforms support AI experiences that adapt to users, alongside changes to gaming, imaging and connectivity. These remain company descriptions of the technology, rather than findings from independent handset tests.

For Extreme, the announcement highlights Adreno Neural Fusion for AI-assisted graphics, Advanced Professional Video support and Intelligent Pixel Control for imaging. It does not establish how these features will perform across different finished phones.

Qualcomm named prospective device partners including Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi. Their inclusion does not establish an India launch schedule or mean each brand will use both processors.

The announcement did not disclose processor pricing, India-specific handset availability or finished-device prices. Those details will determine how the expanded flagship range reaches buyers, beyond the capabilities described at the chip launch.
