Uber adds flexible driver passes and WhatsApp onboarding in India
The company outlined driver-app, subscription and safety changes at Uber Pragati in Chennai, alongside additional earning options.
Uber has announced subscription passes ranging from six hours to 180 days and WhatsApp-based driver onboarding, among a set of product changes presented at Uber Pragati in Chennai on November 2.
The company says its Flexible Drive Pass options cater to part-time and full-time drivers, while Quickstart allows onboarding through WhatsApp. Eligible drivers can also continue accepting cash trips within an additional credit limit under its Earn First, Pay Later feature.
Other changes include voice notes in rider-driver chats, a simplified Driver App and a Safety Content Flag that prompts riders to reconsider potentially inappropriate messages. Drivers receiving such messages can cancel eligible trips without affecting their cancellation statistics, according to Uber.
“Our ambition is to continue being the platform of choice for flexible earning opportunities in India,” said Aditya Kapoor, director of supply operations for Uber India and South Asia, in the supplied statement.
Uber also outlined earning options through intercity bike trips, business deliveries, personal-package delivery and pet-friendly car trips. The announcement does not disclose pass prices or quantify the effect of these changes on drivers' take-home earnings.
