Vedanta puts INR 21,000 crore of FY26 metals spending under an EV heading

Vedanta says it has invested more than INR 21,000 crore through FY26 in ongoing metal production and capacity expansion across aluminium, zinc, copper, steel, nickel and ferrochrome, framing the spending as support for India's electric vehicle materials chain. Its production filings put FY26 aluminium output at a record 2,456 kt, up 1 percent, refined zinc at 851 kt, up 3 percent, and copper cathode at 170 kt, up 15 percent. Hindustan Zinc's silver production fell 9 percent to 627 tonnes and refined lead 13 percent, neither disclosed in the announcement. Vedanta holds 10 critical mineral blocks with exploration underway at five. India imports about 95 percent of its critical minerals, according to the Minister of Coal and Mines. The INR 21,000 crore aggregates existing projects rather than committing new capital, and Vedanta did not say what share is EV-specific.
